Description: The paper presents a comparative perspective on the views of Slavic and Turkic scholars on the concept of proverb (in Russian, Belarusian, Turkish, and Yakut philology). This topic is relevant given the need to study national traditions of describing proverbs, which provides additional material for a general understanding of the phenomenon of proverbs. The analysis demonstrates the existence of a long tradition of studying proverbs in the languages under consideration. Researchers share many similarities in their understanding and description of proverbs and their properties, which is related to the reflection of universal human thinking in paremias. However, representatives of different linguistic cultures emphasize different aspects of their descriptions of proverbs.
