Personification of life and death through substantive metaphors in russian poetic discourse of the xx - early xxi centuries

Abstract

The article provides the general structure of the semantic field of substantive metaphors of life and death. Substantive metaphors reflecting the personification of life and death in Russian poetic discourse are examined in detail. There are cases of substantive metaphorization of life and death through the same secondary nominees. The semantic factors common and unique to life and death are described, arising on the basis of the general meaning of a living being. Conclusions are drawn about the status of life and death as members of a binary opposition, about their completeness and detail of figurative reflection in poetic discourse.
