Abstract

Metaphor is traditionally considered as a capacious and complex, semiotically ambivalent, paradoxical phenomenon ranging from the most important mechanism of mental activity and image-making, in particular, to poetic sophistication, a verbal vignette; from the basic way of representing scientific knowledge to a tool of deception. This was pointed out in the philosophical tradition, as well as by the writers and poets themselves.
