| Abstract: | The article examines the ethical and aesthetic aspirations of N. M. Karamzin in the context of Enlightenment ideology; it analyzes the significance of the socio-political and philosophical-ethical theories of J. J. Rousseau in the development of N. M. Karamzin’s sentimentalism; it proves that N.M. Karamzin combined the educational idea of “natural law” with the doctrine of the “categorical imperative” of I. Kant anticipating the humanism of Russian literature of the XIX century. |
